Liquid Web Features

Liquid Web is rich in features. As a business, you should be covered in most parts. Their wide range of hosting services covers almost every business type. If you are using WordPress, you will find them more appealing due to their managed service.

Let’s take a look at some of the key Liquid Web features for their WordPress hosting.

Full Server Access

Liquid Web hosting plans come with full server access. Yes, you are free to do anything you want! You can install custom scripts, applications or create a database. Everything is under your control. However, if you are new to server administration, it’s better to keep away from it.

Automatic SSL

SSL protects your site from leaking data. With SSL protection, your site’s communication with users and other servers remains protected. Liquid Web understands its importance and hence provides it automatically to your site. So, when you create your site for the first time or the nth time, you will get it with an SSL certificate installed.

Automatic Daily Backups

Forgot to backup your site? With Liquid Web, you can do so. Liquid Web comes with automatic daily backups for your site. They take complete backups and store the backups offsite. Automatic daily backups come with your hosting package, and you do not need to pay anything extra for it.

SSD Storage

Liquid Web utilizes SSD(Solid State Drive) storage across its hosting plans to facilitate hosting performance. SSD drives are much faster than traditional drives and hence provide excellent performance out of the box.

Server Stack

You get access to a wide range of server stacks with Liquid Web. This means that you can create websites using technologies such as Nginx, PHP7, and SSL. However, they do not support LiteSpeed – a faster alternative to Nginx.

No Limits on Pageview or Traffic

Most hosting service providers put a limitation on traffic and pageviews. In the case of Liquid Web, there is no such limitation. This means that you are free to expand your site the way you want!

Temporary URL

Developers need many testing features to stay ahead of their schedule. One such feature is a temporary URL. Liquid Web generates a temporary URL when you create a server and install a CMS on it.

CDN Support

CDN support is directly built within Liquid Web plans. Their integrated solution offers up to 250 GB bandwidth. Once you cross the bandwidth, you need to pay 0.10 dollars per GB. If you do not like their in-build CDN solution, then you can always use Cloudflare. Also, you need to enable CDN to use it. This is applicable to the WordPress web hosting package.

Email Tools

As a business, you need emails to manage. With Liquid Web, you get emails when you create a website. To access emails, you need to check their webmail through their Liquid Web dashboard.

Developer Tools

In case you need developer’s tools, then you can access them through the dashboard. They support various developer tools, including WP-CLI, SSH access, and GIT.

Stencils let you copy your template to develop your other sites. The feature is useful for those who spend many hours designing their site and want to keep their design elements accessible for their next site.

Conclusion, Drawbacks

Liquid Web Review: Security Features

Security is at the core of Liquid Web. They provide excellent security out of the box. Enterprise plans offer enterprise-grade protection, including the utilization of Secure Socket Layer(SSL), firewalls, virtual private networks(VPN), and other essential tools.

Liquid Web Review: Hosting Services

As a consumer, you get many different options when it comes to Liquid Web hosting services. Before we get started, it is important to know that they do not offer any shared hosting. Let’s go through the different hosting services provided by them below.

Dedicated Hosting

Without shared hosting, their offering starts with dedicated web hosting. The service provides you a solid foundation for your business, giving you access to the server’s full resources. Another key feature of dedicated web hosting is its security. They provide locked-down security for your application or website.

Liquid Web Hosting Plan

So, what options do you have when it comes to configurations? Well, you can get started with a 2 x 249 GB SSD, quad-core processor, and 5 TB bandwidth. The specs go as high as 32 cores with 128 GB RAM, 1 TB SATA, and 15 TB Bandwidth. As you may have guessed, dedicated web hosting plans are business-oriented.

The plan starts from $199 per month for their basic plan. You are also free to choose the server when choosing the plan. At the time of writing, you can choose between US Central Servers(Michigan), US West Servers(Arizona), and EU Netherlands(Amsterdam).

VPS Hosting

If you are on a budget and still want excellent server performance, VPS hosting is for you. It offers affordable yet powerful hosting in your virtual private hosting. According to them, their VPS hosting is faster than Rackspace and AWS. With complete root access, you get complete control of the server.

Liquid Web VPS Hosting

You can choose between Windows and Linux as your server operating system. Similar to dedicated web hosting, you also get multiple configurations, starting from 2 GB RAM, 2vCPU, 40 GB SSD, 10 TB Bandwidth — expandable to 16 GB RAM, 8vCPU, 200 GB SSD, and 10 TB Bandwidth.

VPS hosting plans start from just $59 per month to $199 per month for dedicated web hosting(not considering their yearly plans). The VPS hosting plans are ideal for businesses that need the best storage and RAM for their applications.

WordPress Hosting

Liquid Web’s WordPress hosting is also a step forward compared to similar services from other service providers. To ensure the best possible service, they provide a managed solution — which means that you do not need to worry about security, scalability, and performance. Liquid Web manages these three parameters(performance, scalability, and security) as part of their bundle.

By taking the plan, you get a free migration service. Apart from that, there are no overage or overcharge fees associated with traffic. They also take care of plugin updates and let you know about the progress through visual comparisons. Lastly, you get access to the image optimization plugin for the best page speed.

At the core, Nexcess cloud platform powers Managed WordPress and Managed WooCommerce plans. There are multiple benefits that Nexcess brings, including:

  • Automatic daily backups
  • Full server access
  • No pageview/traffic limits
  • Staging sites
  • Automatic SSL
  • 24-hour support
  • Fully managed WordPress
  • Developer tools

Managed WordPress plans start from $19 per month, where you get 15 GB storage, 2 TB Bandwidth, and 30-days backup. The basic plan supports one site; however, they offer to support up to 250 sites in case you want to get their more advanced plans.

Cloud Dedicated Servers

In addition to all the available hosting types, Liquid Web provides cloud hosting as well. They provide the same power as that of dedicated servers and the agility of the cloud, i.e., scalability.

However, their scalability, along with dedicated resources, make them quite expensive. To optimize pricing, Cloud dedicated servers feature two pricing options:

  • Standard Cloud Dedicated Options starting from $149 per month featuring 4 cores, 16 GB RAM, 5 TB bandwidth, and 452 GB SSD RAID 1
  • High Performance Cloud Dedicated Options starting from $579 per month featuring 6 cores, 16 GB RAM, 5 TB Bandwidth, 3.8 TB HW RAID 1 NVMe.

Other Hosting Options and Pricing

Liquid Web offers extensive hosting options. That’s what makes their pricing more diverse compared to other hosting providers. To summarize them, let’s take a look at the list below:

  • VMWare Private Cloud: Ideal for multi-tenant and dedicated infrastructure — starts at $510 per month.
  • Managed WooCommerce: Ideal for WooCommerce stores — starts at $19 per month.
  • Magento Cloud: For eCommerce sites using Magento — starts at $49 per month

Liquid Web Review: Interface

With Liquid Web, your interface may differ depending on the hosting type you have chosen. Considering that you are trying out WordPress, you will get access to the Nexcess interface. The interface for the WordPress Nexcess is simple.

Once you get the account, you need to wait before it gets ready. Patience is key here. Once the installation is done, you should see it set up as below.

Liquid Web Interface

I have chosen to name my plans “Testing Grounds.” You are free to choose any name of your plan. Once you click it, you will find details on your hosting, including domain name, disk space, and IP address. If you have multiple websites, then those websites will also be listed here.

Liquid Web Interface

If you now click on the domain name, you get redirected to the site’s control panel. However, if you click on the temp domain, you will be redirected to the site’s front end.

Liquid Web Interface

From here, all you need to do is configure your site based on your requirement. Check out the options on the left menu to get through the options. You get access to options such as adding domain, configuring emails, or using Stencils. It also offers staging environment creation via the Dev Environment option.

Remember, this interface is for WordPress hosting only. And, you might get a different interface in case you choose a different hosting type.

Liquid Web Hosting Speed Test

With limited access to their plans at the time of writing, we can only test their web hosting speed, especially WordPress hosting speed. We covered the interface offered by their WordPress hosting, and now it is time to check out the Liquid Web hosting speed.

If you go to their site, you will see them promising ultrafast loading speed. But does it offer those amazing speeds?

Let’s look at the results for mobile devices.

Liquid Web Speed test

Excellent results! 100/100 is something that most websites can dream of. However, before you jump into joy, the score is for a bare minimum site with the default theme and almost no plugins. In this case, they are using the WordPress Twenty Twenty Theme. So, the end result depends on how you optimize your site. The one thing that is clear from the result is that their site server can render the site very fast!

Now, check how it performs on the desktop.

Not surprising! The same performance is carried over to the desktop version. You also need to be wary of the test site using bare minimum plugins and a default site.

During development, I recommend checking out Cloudflare to handle caching and ensuring that the site loads faster in geographical regions where the server is physically far away.

To ensure consistency in results, I also checked GTMetrix and found it scoring “A” with a 100% performance score to ensure consistency in results. The key metric here is the Largest Contentful Paint(LCP). It stands at 523ms, which is excellent considering that the accepted value is 1.2 seconds.

Liquid Web review: Support

Liquid Web support is what makes them amazing. They have marketed their support as “Heroic Support” as they promise to provide support within 59 seconds of you starting the chat.

Initially, you are greeted with a chatbot that asks for your account ID and pin. It also briefly asks you about the problem. It won’t take long for a human to join and help you solve your problem with the initial information taken.

However, do not expect them to solve your problem in just 59 seconds as it is the time in which they will make the first contact. The time taken to solve your problem depends on the severity of the issue.

Their support staff is highly trained with the ability to solve critical problems on the spot.  The team consists of knowledgeable personals in Red hat Linux, Windows, and other critical infrastructure-related skills.

Apart from that, you also get access to the Helpdesk. You can also connect them through email for assistance.

Pros and Cons

Liquid Web Pros and Cons

Liquid Web is undoubtedly an excellent hosting experience. Its wide range of hosting options makes a playing ground for businesses who need different hosting needs for their projects.

If you are a business that relies on WordPress, then you can get great options at your disposal. Liquid Web partnered with Nexcess to provide WordPress-related hosting.

The Liquid Web infrastructure is undoubtedly its most decorative asset. They use excellent infrastructure, which also makes them expensive.

Liquid Web does come with some cons. The most obvious cons is the pricing associated with it. It is expensive and hence not for anyone. The high cost is also because of no shared hosting availability. Lastly, you will not get any money-back guarantee for most of their hosting types. Right now, they only provide a 30-day money-back guarantee for three services.

This can be something that most businesses would want, considering that it is hard to understand the compatibility without trying out the service first. However, they do provide a way to get refunds if you intimate them within one month of starting the plan. This does not apply to yearly plans.

To simply their pros and cons, let’s list them below:

  • Excellent business-class hosting plans
  • Great support
  • Website and app loading speed are excellent
  • User-friendly
  • Gives you access to full server
  • Offer email and CDN
  • 999% uptime guarantee
  • Great team of technician
  • 100% SLA guarantee for mission-critical apps
  • Excellent security and speed add-ons
  • Optimized for WooCommerce and WordPress
  • Partnership with Nexcess

  • Expensive
  • No shared hosting options
  • Money-back guarantee on a few services

Conclusion - Do we recommend it?

Liquid Web is a feature-rich hosting service with a wide range of hosting options. As a business, you need a hosting provider to cater to your needs. Liquid Web provides that. It goes beyond and offers stellar support for its customers. Their Heroic Support is a standard that other hosting providers can learn from.

Pricing can be on the higher side, but that’s for good. By ensuring no shared hosting, they also make sure that they provide only the best service to their customers. With the WHM/CPanel interface, they provide decent ease of use to the users. As for developers, they will find themselves at home with Liquid Web.

However, before you commit — it is recommended to do your due research. They do not provide a money-back guarantee on all their plans, and that means if the hosting doesn’t meet your requirement — you will find yourself stuck with them. The good news is that they offer a free trial. So, check the free trial and then decide.

What about me? Would I recommend it? Yes!

Enterprises can also take a look at their enterprise plans. The approach taken by Liquid Web is methodological and ensures that it can meet the enterprise standard for security, speed, reliability, and scalability.

Clearly, they are one of the top hosting service providers aimed at growing businesses with uncompromised infrastructure and support staff.
